General Info

Iron Chef Dine-In & Takeaway (20Th Anniversary) has quietly become a local favourite for anyone craving comforting, well-made Japanese food in Wembley. Located at 186 Harborne St, Wembley WA 6014, Australia, this Japanese restaurant blends casual dining with dependable flavours, making it a reliable stop for both dine-in meals and takeaway orders.

Walking in, the atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming, the kind of place where you can enjoy lunch without rushing or settle in for an easygoing meal with friends. The menu is thoughtfully put together, offering a balance of classic Japanese dishes that appeal to regulars and first-time visitors alike. Reviews often mention how consistent the food is, which is exactly what you want from a neighbourhood restaurant you plan to return to.

One of the standout menu items is the Pork Katsu Curry. The crispy crumbed pork pairs beautifully with the rich, mildly spiced curry sauce, creating a dish that feels hearty without being heavy. Alongside that, the Gyoza is a popular choice, lightly pan-fried with a satisfying crunch and a juicy filling that works perfectly as a starter or side. These dishes reflect the kitchen’s focus on simple techniques done well.

Seafood lovers are equally well catered for. The Teriyaki Fish Donburi brings together tender fish glazed in a sweet-savory teriyaki sauce, served over warm rice for a comforting, well-balanced bowl. Sushi fans often lean toward the Hosomaki Sushi Platter, which is neatly presented and fresh, making it ideal for sharing or enjoying as a light meal. For something fun and distinctly Japanese, the Takoyaki adds a street-food-style option that’s full of flavour and texture.

Iron Chef Dine-In & Takeaway (20Th Anniversary) suits a wide range of dining styles. It’s casual enough for a quick lunch break yet comfortable for a longer sit-down meal. Payment is easy and convenient, with both credit cards and debit cards accepted. The takeaway service is just as reliable, making it simple to enjoy your favourite dishes at home without compromising on quality.

With its approachable menu, consistent food, and friendly setting, this Japanese restaurant continues to earn positive reviews from locals who appreciate good food served without fuss.

What customers say?

“ This is unironically the absolute best take away sushi in Perth! I have been getting the chicken terayaki sushi from here for at least 15 years and it never ceases to amaze me how good the sushi here in comparison to other places in Perth. The owner takes your order and prepares the sushi for you fresh which a refreshing change to other take away sushi which might have sitting around for hours before you buy it. The owner is a non-nonsense person, so if he says 15 minutes then please wait 15 minutes just just know that he takes pride in the high quality of the food he serves. Absolutely would recommend for anyone looking for take away sushi in Perth. ”

“ For a local Japanese restaurant, if you're in the area you can get some simple Japanese food for takeaway here that hits the spot. Whilst the food isn't gourmet, it's prepared fresh with plenty of flavour for reasonable prices. As the store seems to be solely manned by the owner (he takes orders and cooks the food), it is a takeaway store, at least for now. What that also means is that customers are requested to order in advance (preferably at least an hour in advance, or even the day before if you want to be completely sure you get your order on time). They accept cash or else there's a 2% credit card surcharge. ”

“ Fabulous food at Iron Chef. This food is the best Japanese food I have ever had. When I buy Sushi, the rice is usually still warm as its made fresh, fresh, fresh.Dont be put off though as sometimes the owner can seem to be abrupt, but its because he makes all the food himself and also takes all the orders, so sometimes he is under pressure. He is a lovely person though and means only the best. His Japanese food quality and freshness, is brilliant. Just one point, don't order from Uber eats. The one time I did it took ages to get here and the food was not nearly as good as when I pick it up myself. I highly recommend that you pop down there to Harborne Street and pick up yr order. You will save yourself twenty bucks or so and the quality of the food is totally worth the trip. ”

“ I went at opening time (10am). Make selection, pay cash, return in specified time (Eg 15min) for delicious fresh, made to order sushi. efficient owner/chef. not waste time with small talk. Note: Sushi always taste best when eaten immediately rather than wait for Uber delivery. recommend pickup in person. ”

“ I got told about this place by a few friends and my only gripe with them is........why they didn't tell me sooner! Without doubt the best sushi in Perth - still warm and full of flavour. The Iron Chef himself doesn't want to talk to you even after I told him his sushi was the best I've ever had, but for a takeaway place, who really cares . Phone ahead and you'll make his day if you pay in cash ”

“ hands down best sushi of my life- in a world of day old tasteless chewy handrolls in the middle of woolies, this man has single handedly saved my impression of the humble teriyaki 10 piece sushi roll. The rice is so freshly cooked it’s warm, the mayo is perfectly proportioned, I feel like I am discovering god every time I take a bite. I’ve been eating here since I was a toddler, my entire family - aunt, cousins, parents, grandparents - all hold this place in high regard. It hasn’t changed a bit in my entire lifetime- the outside of the shop does not match the reality of this food, the menu is still the same, and the owner still looks like he might explode if you arrive even one minute early. TO EVERYONE WHO IS IRRATIONALLY UPSET AT BEING ‘abused’ BY THIS MASTER OF HIS CRAFT: This man is making you food that is basically divine. If you can’t endure a little bit of abruptness, you do not deserve his gifts. That being said, it’s really easy to not invoke his (rightful) wrath. 1. If it’s your first time coming here, you’re going to have to use the online menu to decide what you want. Luckily, after you collect your first meal, you can grab a physical one on the way out, that you will then be able to keep for a decade. You’re welcome. 2. Decide EXACTLY what you are going to order. Repeat it out loud once or twice. 3. Call. Tell him what you want without any small talk. Tell him when you want it. When he tells you when the food will be ready - ie, in 15 minutes, REMEMBER THAT NUMBER. 4. Set an alarm for [however many minutes]. Doesn’t matter how long you have to sit in your car, only enter the door after the alarm has gone off. 5. Walk in. Tell him what you ordered. Have either cash or card out as you walk in. Don’t be annoying. Don’t make useless comments. Make your payment method clear. Thank him profusely. Grab a menu as you walk away. If you really really really insist on small talk, ask about his daughter, or compliment his cooking, which I’m pretty sure are the two things he cares about in life. Don’t expect him to change- not only is he lovely the way he is, and shouldn’t have to change to earn your respect, but he’s also endured years of the same complaints about customer service, and none of those complainers ever got anything out of it. But if you’re nice, eventually he MIGHT smile when you thank him, and you better be honoured by that gesture. TLDR, legend, icon, master, best sushi in the world ”
